Since 1989 Labexchange has been active on the second-hand equipment market. The company offers the widest range of laboratory and analysis devices for all laboratories in the fields of chemistry, biochemistry, food and environmental technology. The spectrum of users comprises prospective buyers from industry and higher education. GIT spoke with General Manager Wolfgang Kuster about Labexchange\'s organisation, philosophy and aims. In the past, the market for used laboratory equipment has definitely been underestimated, though it is likely to gain in importance in the coming years, when the term \"used equipment\" is no longer seen as being synonymous with poor quality. That\'s what this report is all about! Burladingen – Labexchange was founded in 1989 in Burladingen, 90 km south of Stuttgart, by Wolfgang Kuster, a certified chemical engineer.

Our very first aim as a company was to create a market for used laboratory and analysis equipment, something which had previously not existed in Germany. Until then, users could only sell their superfluous equipment directly to a known buyer. Sales potential for sellers and purchasing options for potential buyers were therefore very limited, since neither had sufficient contacts or equipment to enable them to reach the best possible deal.

Over the years, Labexchange has built up an equipment pool, which currently numbers some 2,500 devices. This equipment pool, covering all application profiles, is available to 45,000 users across Germany and around 100,000 users in Europe via the website www.labexchange.com, the Laborgerätebörse "Gazette“ and via fax and e-mail.

In this way, offerers of equipment have the ideal opportunity to get rid of their equipment as quickly as possible, and potential buyers can choose from the largest available selection of second-hand laboratory and analysis devices. Buyers of used equipment are taking no risks when purchasing from Labexchange, since all devices are thoroughly inspected prior to delivery by independent service laboratories and come with a service report and functional guarantee.

The functional guarantee is the most comprehensive guarantee form and applies to all devices from Labexchange for a minimum of 60 days. A guarantee can be extended for an additional charge of 10 % for six months and of 20 % for a full year. With guarantee conditions like these, buying from Labexchange is as safe as buying a new device.

To celebrate its 15 years in the business, Labexchange is granting all customers a 15-% discount on some 500 laboratory devices until 31 January 2005.
